The donation from the Jacob’s Well Appeal, a small charity in East Yorkshire, was presented to Director of the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) Philmore Mullin during a handing over ceremony on July 27.
According to a release from the Antigua High Commission office in the UK, the bulk of the items are to be distributed to the Hanna Thomas Hospital in Barbuda, while the remainder will be sent to the MSJMC.
Included among the items are urine bags, wheelchairs, respiratory systems, an incubator, syringes, bedpans, cardiac monitors, ultrasound scanners, and x-ray machines. Ten hospital beds were also donated by the St. George’s Hospital in London.
The items were sourced after representatives from the High Commission held consultations with NODS and Matron of the Hannah Thomas Hospital, Cynthia Byers, as well as Dr. Jeremy Deazle, resident medical officer, along with Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health and the Environment, Dr. Oritta Zachariah.
